Miami-Dade County Passed “Ban the Box” Measure

Miami-Dade County in Florida passed a measure in an 8-4 vote to “ban the box” from county government employment applications. Among the supporters of the law, the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s office stated that there are many times that judges can deny someone a public defender for a minor offense that does not merit jail time. Most people in this situation are left without an attorney, take a plea deal and end up with a record that could have been avoided. Although the state of Florida has not passed “ban the box” legislation, Miami-Dade County joins other big cities in Florida such as Jacksonville, Tampa, and Orlando that have removed the box from their employment applications.

This code is sent out to QualifiedFirst® users and can be used for discounts on personal background check orders. Note – these codes cannot be used when responding to a requirement set code.
